Humanity's still worth a damn.
Why BILYUNS exists
There are billions of us. Most of us will never meet. But every month, somewhere, a light is about to go out because of a bill that's smaller than what a few strangers spend on coffee.
BILYUNS is a social playground for that gap. Anyone can post a legitimate bill. Anyone can help pay it. You swipe right to pick it up, left to pass — no guilt, no lectures — and decide later how much, if anything, you want to chip in.
Swipe right. Pick up the bill. We're all we've got.
Everyone can need help
A transmission, a layoff, a diagnosis, a cold snap. Nobody is more than a couple of bad weeks away from needing a hand. That's not a character flaw. That's being a person.
Everyone can offer help
You don't need to be rich to pick up a $12 reconnection fee. You just need to be here. Small amounts, multiplied by enough people, turn into one less worry for someone.
Show the need, not the face
No sad photos. No names. No performance of hardship for the camera. A bill is a bill, and the story behind it is shared only as much as the person chooses.
Generosity without humiliation
Asking shouldn't cost dignity, and giving shouldn't buy applause. Signs of Life celebrates showing up — never dollar amounts — and anonymity is always welcome.
Imperfect, and still worth it
We're a messy species. We argue, we forget, we're wrong a lot. We also run into burning buildings and leave groceries on porches. BILYUNS bets on the second part.
A pale blue dot
In 1990, at the urging of astronomer Carl Sagan, the Voyager 1 spacecraft turned its camera around for one last look home. From about six billion kilometers away, Earth showed up as a fraction of a single pixel — a speck caught in a scattered beam of sunlight.
Sagan later wrote about that image in his 1994 book Pale Blue Dot. His point wasn't that we're insignificant. It was that we're all we've got: every argument, every border, every bill, every kindness, happening on one small rock with nobody coming to help us but each other.
“Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us.”
The tiny blue dot in the middle of our Y is a nod to that idea. It's the reason our background is true black and our accents are quiet: the point is the small, bright thing in the middle of all that dark.
BILYUNS is independently made and is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by Carl Sagan's estate, NASA, or the Voyager mission. No Voyager imagery or portraits are used; our Earth illustrations are original.
